Paul founded Michaelson Law in June of 1992 after serving nearly five years as the Director of Securities Registration & Licensing for the Nevada Securities Division (1987-92), the agency responsible for regulating investment activity in the state. He was one of the lead draftsmen in developing the current Nevada Administrative Code on securities laws. During this period, he served in key committee assignments with the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) which is comprised of securities regulators from the 50 states, Canada and Mexico. He was a member of the Real Estate Investment Trusts and other real estate syndications programs committee. He was also a member of the Disclosure Standards Committee which sponsored the development of the Small Corporate Offering Registration (SCOR) program designed to assist small business capital formation. Paul was selected as a participant in a national forum on small business capital formation sponsored by the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington DC in the Fall of 1991.
He has been a practicing attorney since graduating from Seattle University School of Law in 1980 and is a member of the Utah and Nevada Bar Associations. He has extensive experience in real estate, corporate and estate planning law. He has lectured at numerous seminars and workshops on capital formation, corporate law and estate planning. He is the former Co-Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Small Business Development Center and current President of Friends In the Desert, a foundation which feeds the homeless.
Paul is a former Captain in the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Army and was twice awarded the Army Commendation Medal from the Secretary of the Army for Meritorious service. He has been happily married to his wife, Anne, for over 50 years and is the father of 6 children and 25 grandchildren.
